Six Teens Arrested After Device Explodes in Dunedin Park

Deputies from Pinellas County have arrested six teenagers after they set off a destructive device near the Louis A. Vanech Recreation Center on Garrison Road in Dunedin. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Monday, July 6, when deputies received a call about people in the 3051 Garrison Road park after hours.

After the first device exploded near the racquetball courts by the recreation center, deputies started to canvas the area and found a second device. The bomb squad from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were called in to deal with the second device. The bomb squad was able to detonate it without incident.

According to the arrest documents, four 19-year-olds, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old were taken into custody. The four 19-year-olds are being charged as adults and were taken to the Pinellas County Jail. The two minors were transported to the Pinellas Juvenile Assessment Center.
