25-year-old Cheyanne Jessie of Lakeland, Florida has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the death of her 50-year-old father, Mark Weekly, and the death of her 6-year-old daughter, Meredith Jessie. Cheyanne Jessie has also been charged with one count of tampering with evidence according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press conference held by Polk Sheriff Grady Judd, Jessie attempted to fabricate an elaborate missing person case to cover her tracks after inquiries from relatives as to the whereabouts of her father and daughter. It was after these inquiries that Jessie filed a missing persons report with the Polk County police.
Jessie told police that she received a text from her father that alleged he was terminally ill and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Jessie’s daughter Meredith. Also, Jessie claimed that her father was planning on moving to Georgia and therefore she had permission to sell his property.
Police thought the story seemed a bit fishy and a subsequent investigation at Wood’s home revealed the smell of decay. Ultimately, body parts of both Jessie’s father and daughter were found in plastic bins which were placed in a shed that was approximately 200 yards behind the home. The idea to place the bodies in a plastic bin occurred to Jessie after she happened to catch the television show “Criminal Minds.”
The motive for her daughter’s death has been established – Cheyanne killed the child because she didn’t like her and also felt that she was interferring with her relationship with her boyfriend. A motive for why she killed her father hasn’t been established as of yet.
The decomposing bodies were discovered Sunday.
Jessie is currently at the Polk County jail.
